Just north of the corner of Wyatt and Weaver on Bainbridge Island lies the entrance to the charming neighborhood of Hillandale, designed and built by noted developer Dick Allen in 1998. This carefully planned community of 36 houses boasts a central common area bisected by a winding gravel path. The park is home to several picnic tables and has hosted many a game of catch! Additional paths leading out of the area at both the north and south ends make the mile walk into downtown Winslow not only possible but pleasant. Each of the homes is thoughtfully landscaped and topped by a whimsical windvane executed by local artist Michelle VanSlyke.
The Hillandale Homeowner Association is responsible for maintaining the grounds and the architectural continuity of the neighborhood. Over its almost twenty years, there have been trees that needed to be removed, street lighting that needed to be replaced and people wishing to make architectural changes. An annual meeting informs about works in progress and solicits opinions from the rest of the owners.
